Some shows have such a profound impact on the viewers that they leave an indelible mark on their minds. Such shows are remembered and appreciated long after they are called off. You got it right folks! I am talking about ‘X-Files’, which ended in 2002 but still commands enough interest that X-Files franchise released a movie named X- Files: I want to Believe’ this year which did a decent business. I am sure there are many fans like me who can never have enough of Scully and Mulder. Recently I came across some very interesting facts about these two actors and the characters they have come to be identified with. Initially, network was not too keen on Gillian Anderson for they wanted a more established actress or at least a “taller, leggier, blonder and breastier” actress for the role of Scully. But the stupendous success of the first episode made them change their minds. Another interesting fact is regarding Mulder whose birthday is shown to be October 13 which, incidentally, is the birthday of Chris Carter, the creator of the show. Chris also named the company that he had established to oversee the production of X-Files tv show as Ten Thirteen Productions after his October 13 birthday.

After following this series since its inception, I have come to identify the actors portraying these characters with the characters themselves and still find it difficult to accept them in any other role. David Duchovny recently starred in another bawdy comedy show called ‘Californication’ and despite his superior and convincing acting skills I found it very difficult to accept him in the role of a sex- addict.

The understated sexual tension between Mulder and Scully had the viewers as much interested as the baffling mysteries on the show itself. There were hardly any intimate scenes between the two in the course of nine years of show and two movies, yet their attraction and fondness for each other was quite palpable. In the 7th and 8th season they are shown to be a couple and Scully gives birth to their son William. In the movie ‘I want to Believe’we are informed that William died and they both miss their son.
