Mitch Pileggi took birth in Portland, Oregon. He’s one of the several children of Maxine, a homemaker, and Vito Pileggi, a defense contractor. Due to the profession of his father, their family had to move often and Mitch spent several years of his life in Oregon, California, and Texas and then in Turkey. During the high school years, Mitch Pileggi played as a football player and also had interest in wrestling. From the University of Texas in Austin, Mitch received a degree in business. Mitch also worked as a defense contractor in Iran for sometime. After the 1979 Iranian Revolution, he and his brother fled the country, ending up in Greece.

While in Turkey, during the high school years, Mitch Pileggi made the debut of his acting career by playing musical theatre. His shifting from Iran to Austin didn’t influence his career and he continued his acting journey by performing in local theatres as well as portraying small roles in B-movies. During the same time period, Mitch Pileggi also portrayed several guest characters, most notably in shows like Dallas, Married with Children, China Beach and Walker, Texas Ranger etc. Pileggi also portrayed the character of Duke “The Duker” Herman, an over zealous tough-as-nails high school parking lot security guard, in the movie Three O’Clock High. In the film Shocker, Pileggi played the character of Horace Pinker, a body-possessing serial killer.

One of the most popular roles of his acting career is on ‘The X-Files’, in which Mitch portrayed the character of FBI’s Assistant Director, Walter Skinner. He initially joined the series as a recurring character but as people started liking him and he received good reviews, the role was expanded to a regular one. Mitch Pileggi remained a part of ‘The X-Files’ until its cancellation in 2002. He also played the same role in X-Files movie, released in 1998 and reprised his character in The X Files: I Want to Believe.
His recent performance was on Tarzan, a short lived TV show. In another short lived TV show named The Mountain, Mitch appeared along with Barbara Hershey and Oliver Hudson. For some seasons of the very popular sci-fi series ‘Stargate Atlantis’, he has portrayed the character of Colonel Steven Caldwell, the Commander of the Earth Battlecruiser, Daedalus. Mitch also became a part of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation but for a single episode only. In 2006, he joined Day Break, as the Robbery/Homicide Detective Spivak, a regular guest character. Mitch was also seen in an episode, entitled ‘Offender’ of Cold Case, portraying the character of an accused father.

His next project was Grey’s Anatomy, in which Mitch was seen as Larry Jennings, chairman of the board of the hospital. People also saw him playing a friend, named Bull, of Red Forman in an episode of the popular TV show That 70s Show. In Supernatural, he portrayed Samuel Campbell, Dean and Sam Winchester’s grandfather.
Pileggi joined the star cast of Law and Order: SVU as Jack Hammond, a DEA agent but made an appearance in only two episodes of the series.
In 2008, Pileggi joined Sons of Anarchy as Ernest Darby. He was the head of the Nordics Motorcycle Club. He also made an appearance in an episode of Criminal Minds, entitled ‘Normal’, playing Spree Killer Norman Hill.
Though his primary concern is acting, Mitch Pileggi has also tried his hands in voice acting. For the video game Planescape: Torment, he gave his voice to the character of githzerai Dak’kon. He also served as the voiceover artist for the character of Commissioner James Gordon in The Batman, the new Kids WB animated show. He also served as the host for the controversial FOX specials Breaking the Magician’s Code: Magic’s Biggest Secrets Finally Revealed and Conspiracy Theory: Did We Land on the Moon?
Mitch Pileggi married Debbie Andrews in 1978 and their marriage came to an end in 1983. It was 1996 when Mitch got married to Arlene Warren. He has a daughter with Arlene, named Sawyer.

Mitch Pileggi is seen portraying the role of Assistant Director Walter Skinner on ‘The X-Files’. With FBI, Mitch works as an Assistant Director and is also the direct supervisor of X-Files office and special agents Mulder and Scully. This former marine and Vietnam War veteran is married to Sharon Skinner. His likes to jog and box. He’s very good friend of a Hollywood screen writer, named Wayne Federman. His role in ‘The X-Files’ helped Mitch to become a very well known celebrity among the TV viewers.
