This two time Golden Globe Award winning American television and film actor is part of the brood of Margaret, a school administrator and teacher, and Amram Ducovny (Duchovny), a writer and publicist who worked for the American Jewish Committee. His other two siblings are Daniel and Laurie Duchovny. As a young boy he attended The Collegiate School for Boys in Manhattan and graduated from Princeton University. His interest in Literature propelled him towards Yale University from where he completed his Masters in English Literature and started working on Ph.D that still remains unfinished. He first appeared in Löwenbräu beer ad in 1987. There was no looking back after that as he appeared in TV serials like Twin Peaks and Red Shoe Diaries. But he reached the pinnacle of his career with ‘X- Files’ where he starred as FBI Special Agent Fox Mulder, a conspiracy theorist who was adamant that aliens were responsible for the disappearance of his sister. The show proved to be an instant hit and soon become a cult icon of pop culture paving way to two movies from the X-Files franchise.
He appeared in various TV shows like Simpsons, Saturday Night Live, Larry Sanders Show, Sex and the City and celebrity edition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. He also starred in many films like Return to Me, Zoolander, Evolution. Though he had made his directorial debut with an episode of X- Files, he wrote, directed and acted in the film House of D, which also featured his wife, Tea Leoni and Robin Williams. The movie bombed at the box office and could garner only negative reviews. He also guest directed an episode of Bones.

Presently, Duchovny is portraying Hank Moody, a troubled writer suffering from writers block in Californication. For the successful portrayal of the same, he has bagged a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Comedy or Musical in 2007.

Fox Mulder

In the series, he plays the role of Special Agent Fox William Mulder who earned the nickname ‘Spooky’ Mulder because of his remarkable and unexpected insight in the psyche of serial killers and hardcore criminals and obsessive interest in paranormal. He works on X-Files which contain unsolved cases involving paranormal like UFO along with Agent Dana Scully who plays devil’s advocate. His sister Samantha disappears inexplicably during their childhood and he is convinced that she was abducted by the aliens. His interest in paranormal reaches fanatical heights later, in his adult life as he investigates various cases. Towards the end of the series, in the 8th season he is abducted by the aliens and when he returns he is half dead infected with an alien virus. Scully manages to save him with great difficulty. He is accused of murdering Knowle Rohrer and sentenced to death. Duchovny breaks the prison and escapes with Scully. The movie, ‘X-Files: I want to Blieve’ shows him living as a fugitive when he is asked to join in the investigations to find missing FBI agent in lieu of full pardon.
