Oh Scully! I am wondering what happened to you and your partner, Mulder? The days of X-Files are long gone, but the memories of you two together traveling around and chasing aliens still linger on.

While Mulder aka David Duchovny is busy with his show Californication, Gillian is busy with her upcoming movie, Johnny English Reborn with the British madman, Rowan Atkinson.

That movie is due to be released in the later part of 2011, but for now she will have her hands full with a modern day adaptation of a famous playwright- Charles Dickens’ masterpiece, Great Expectations.

Gillian Anderson will be starring in the TV adaptation of this epic story, and it will telecast sometime around Christmas.

That’s a pretty good present for all the X-Files fans, and a bigger present for all the Scully fans.

Gillian will be starring opposite Ray Winstone. Do I need to tell you the name of their characters?

Come on, its Miss Havisham and the evil Magwitch. What else did you think they would be?

Gillian has long been known as a spontaneous actress and hopefully, this series will give her the chance to showcase a rather different side of her acting repertoire.

Even her fans would be happy to see her in a completely different role and setup; at least I will be. And I can tell that most of the X-Files fans would be happy for her as well.

The series is being produced by the BBC on the eve of bicentennial celebrations of Charles Dickens’ birthday, and they are also producing a movie on the same novel and in the movie, Helena Bonham Carter will be playing the role of Miss Havisham.

Seems to me that Gillian has some competition on her hands, and we all know that Scully… er I meant Gillian loves to compete.

Both the series and the movie will be released next year to mark the 200 year anniversary of the birth of one of the greatest literary figures of the modern times.

Sarah Phelps, the writer of this adaptation, wants to give fresh touch to the classic novel. This is being done so that the avant-garde audience can relate with it easily.

She doesn’t want anyone to take this beautiful sexual revenge tale just as a drama. After all, it is a celebrated story that has the power to touch many lives.

Sarah has also expressed her excitement after getting a beautiful Mrs. Havisham in the figure of Gillian.

She wanted to select a woman, who looks young, even in her forties. She always wanted a woman, who could add glamour and fire to her project.

Looks like Sarah chose well!

However, this is for the second time, that Gillian has been selected for a Dickens’ novel inspired drama. In the year 2005, she appeared as Lady Dedlock in the BBC version of Bleak House.

Her graceful personality can add charm and interest to any project.
